London Media Christmas Ball 2006
Only 30 tickets left. 70 confirmed already!!!
This year’s LM Christmas Ball is booked and will take place on Saturday 2nd December 2006, to be held at the Charring X Thistle Hotel, WC2.
The evening will consist of a sit down meal and for additional entertainment there will be the traditional disco, raffle, auction and maybe a sing along at the end.
This is an ideal opportunity to bring wives, girlfriends, mistress’s or free and available colleagues to a great evening’s entertainment. Ask anyone that booked last year and they should say “they had a great time”, however I cannot guarantee that I can get the fire engine there again this year.
The evening will be Black Tie and Cocktail dresses and will kick off at 7pm with reception drinks. Tickets cost £45 per head and this includes a 3 course meal and wine. To book, click the link below and confirm your booking(s).
I am happy to accept table bookings and if this is of interest to you, please let me know as soon as possible.
Go on – look in the diary and make a commitment NOW!
See you in December.

35 Years, 1,000,001 beers and 1 firm
commitment
It has taken 7 seasons and a great woman to finally
change my commitment from LMRFC to one of
marriage, it won't mean the end of every Saturday
night as Cath comes from a house of 2 Rugby
brothers and a father who's playing days are
still strong in his mind and unfaltering (if not
misguided) support of the WRU, but it does mean
that I'll need a couple of libations to ease the
process.
So, next Thursday night, 24th August @ 7.30ish, Nick Rose
and myself are planning to punt a few Tequilas
and Cervercas down the field at Battersea Rise's
finest Mexican - DIXIES - all comers are welcome
if you fancy stopping by to pass your
condolences and Anadin Extra.
The BIG day is the 2nd Sept so I'll have to leave
the start of the season to you youngsters but if
you need any further drunken tips on how to
achieve greatness, it begins at Dixies on
Thursday night.

Lost In America
For those of you who don't know, we will be
without the services of one Brian "on your
shoulder" Schofield for the first few months of
the season. Brian is currently touring America
for 3 months in a 1983 Dodge Campervan. The
purpose? Well, we have an
alternative
opinion (members only), but Brian is adamant
that
he is researching his forthcoming book on Wild West
history and ecology.
To follow Brian's exploits, or to wish him luck, check out his blog.

Annual Golf Outing
Alistair “Lurch” Parkes made a heroic effort in defending his crown as Media Golf Champion of 2005. On Saturday 5th August, over 20 players fought for the right to be this year’s winner, with only a point splitting the top three places.
With 7 three balls teeing-off just after 2pm in the sweltering heat at Hampton Court Palace golf club, it was cagey from the start. After 4 holes Jason “Chubbs” Coles, was quoted saying “I am having a disaster, par, birdie, bogie, birdie and I can’t believe I am playing off 14 handicap”. He took an early lead and basically headed the groupings to the final hole coming in on 35 stapleford points.
The individual prizes for “Closest to the pin” and “Longest Drive” went to “Big” Paul Farrant and Matt “Pies” Armstrong respectively, with Pies; the shortest guy in the tournament the only player to keep his drive (195 yards) on the fairway. Each walked away with £30 prize money and rather large grins on their faces.
Mike “Judge” Jefferies had a fantastic back nine and pulled level with Chubbs to claim 35 points. There were also late charges from Dan “Hos” Hosford, Patrick Kirkness and Mahmood “Moody” Karmalli to be title holder for 2006, but it was a birdie putt on the 18th hole, which earned Chubbs the championship. He was to regret that putt later, as he won only on a count back.
Much to his disappointment, he was also responsible for beers, which worked out a little more expensive than his £70 prize money. Chubbs was ecstatic about the win and over the moon about the £50 golf shop vouchers, until he realised that the shop was closed. Thanks to Hampton Court Palace for providing the vouchers.
The final scoreboard was:-
2006 Champion – Jason “Chubbs” Coles (35 points)
Runner up – Mike “Judge” Jefferies (35 points)
3rd Place – Matt “Pies” Armstrong (34 points)
Joint 4th Place – Dan “Hos” Hosford & Mahmood “Moody” Karmalli (33 points)
5th Place – Patrick Kirkness (32 points)
Closest to the pin – “Big” Paul Farrant
Longest Drive – Matt “Pies” Armstrong
Thanks also goes out to Nigel “Minty” Murrey who covered all 18 holes and scored nil points. When speaking to the club president Russ “The Munch” Bellamy in the bar afterwards, he was quoted saying “That caddie’s shit. I am not using that useless lazy f*)ker again”.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith
Miss Georgina Perrot became Brad Pitts' (aka Christian) Mrs
Smith in June. George has single-handedly been making
the Overs-Unders grudge match
look good for the last 3 years. Having
been spotted by the RFU scouts, George has been
touted as the first woman likely to
referee a 6 nations international; we always
said LMRFC was a great spring board to
international stardom.
Gutted at missing this years Overs-Unders
clash, George said "The Overs have shown great
attitude and I'm glad they retained the cup" and
added "London media, a unique club with a bit of
bite, I've always enjoyed everyone's
interpretation of the rules!".
Russell Bellamy - LMRFC President -
sent his most sincere congratulations to Mr. and
Mrs. Smith from everyone at the club. Russ commented that although "Jenkins shaved his legs
this year and looked quite stunning, we would
prefer to see George again next year."

The Local
Invariably, you'll find us enjoying
well-deserved, post-match pints in the "Latch".
We also enjoy dishing out Red Eyes to unlucky
punters.
